ABOUT MANORATHAM
Manoratham is a travel journal rooted in the mountains of Dharamshala. Through detailed travel guides, personal observations, and stories from the Kangra Valley, the website explores the landscapes, culture, and hidden places that make this region of Himachal Pradesh unique.
What began as a way to document familiar mountain trails and viewpoints has gradually grown into a collection of guides designed to help travellers experience Dharamshala beyond the usual tourist routes.

About Me
I was born and brought up in Dharamshala, a town nestled between the forests of the Kangra Valley and the towering Dhauladhar mountains. Growing up here meant watching the seasons change across the mountains, walking forest trails, and slowly discovering the quiet corners of the region that many visitors never see.
My academic journey led me into the field of science, where I completed a PhD in Plant Pathology. Those years of study deepened my understanding of the natural world around Dharamshala; its forests, agriculture, ecosystems, and the delicate balance that shapes life in the mountains.
But alongside my academic work, another passion slowly became impossible to ignore: writing.
Over time I realised that what I loved most was not only studying nature, but also describing it, documenting places, telling stories about landscapes, and sharing the quiet beauty of the region where I grew up.
Why I Started Manoratham
Dharamshala is a place that many travellers visit, yet much of its character lies beyond the popular spots that appear in most travel itineraries.
There are quiet viewpoints above the Kangra Valley, small village roads that wind through forests, monasteries tucked into the hillsides, and cafés hidden along mountain paths. These are the places that reveal the real rhythm of the region.
Manoratham began as a way to document these experiences. The website brings together travel guides, itineraries, trekking routes, viewpoints, cafés, and local insights gathered from years of living in Dharamshala.
The goal is simple: to help travellers explore the region more deeply and more thoughtfully.
A Quiet Stay in Dharamshala
Manoratham is also the name of a small mountain homestay located in Khaniyara village near Dharamshala.
Surrounded by forests and overlooking the Kangra Valley, the space offers a peaceful retreat away from the crowds of McLeod Ganj while still remaining close to Dharamshala’s cafés, monasteries, and trekking trails.
From the balconies, guests can watch the changing light across the valley and the snow-covered Dhauladhar mountains on clear days.
Many visitors who stay at Manoratham use the travel guides on this website to explore Dharamshala beyond the usual routes — discovering viewpoints, village landscapes, and quiet corners of the mountains.

Looking ahead
While Manoratham began as a journal of Dharamshala, the vision for the website continues to grow.
In the coming years, the aim is to expand beyond Dharamshala and gradually document more of Himachal Pradesh, its valleys, villages, trekking routes, landscapes, and cultural traditions.
Himachal is a region of immense diversity, and many of its most beautiful places remain quietly hidden from mainstream travel routes. Through guides, stories, and photographs, Manoratham
